The design, tendering, managing and acquisition of services related to facility management involve several intellectual property (IP) elements that necessitate a measured approach to IP asset management. As well an outline of key IP concepts, this presentation will also examine confi dential information and the HRM process, IP aspects in procurement and tendering, IP management of internet facilities, IP management for performances and trade shows, and the IP implications of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Stephen Richard Selby, JP, is the Director of Intellectual Property, Intellectual Property Department, HKSAR Government. He joined the Hong Kong Government in 1978 and became the Director of Intellectual Property in 1994. He was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1993. The Director of Intellectual Property heads a government department of about 90 staff, responsible for maintaining the Hong Kong SAR's trademarks, designs and patents registries. The department is also responsible for the promotion of intellectual property protection in Hong Kong and for the preparation and maintenance of legislation to protect intellectual property in line with international standards and norms.
